The methods in the previous chapter will only work if there are map-images accessible. These can be loaded from the wlandscape-servers. But if the application is in GPSTrackingmode and you move around with a portable computer the internet-connection cannot be guaranteed. In earlier releases the internet-connection was an indispensable requirement. A free moving around was not possible that time. The actual release of wlandscape has a feature allowing this free tracking. The application differentiates between two modes:
• the online-mode, if wlandscape is connected to the internet
• the offline-mode if there is no connection to the internet possible
The actual status can be determined by looking at the symbol of the status-bar located in the lower right corner of the wlandscape-window. If the symbol looks like there will be no connection. No maps and network informations can be loaded from the wlandscapeservers. Only if the symbol is shown then there will be a connection. If you intend to track with a GPS-Receiver you will have to load a collection of maps from the desired area before. This collection is called mapset here. It can expand up to 50 kilometers of diameter and up to four different sizes of map-scales simultaneously.
